Insomnia Hypnotherapy

Can Hypnotherapy help with Insomnia?

Nearly everyone has, at some time in their lives, had periods of experiencing less than optimal sleep.

There are many causes of Insomnia and it may be a good idea to discuss any issue with your GP.

However, if your lack of sleep has no medically related cause, it may be linked to stress, anxiety or background worry that causes the subconscious mind to be “on alert”, with the associated raised adrenaline and cortisol levels. This can make it very difficult indeed to fall asleep easily.

It can also cause nocturnal waking periods where it can be difficult to drift away again, as I’m sure you have noticed if you’re reading this.

This pattern can easily become habituated within the mind, or it becomes “normalised”, even long after any stressors or worries have passed.

It is often the case that the more you try to bring on sleep, the further it drifts away. The more you worry and stress about trying to sleep, the more difficult it is to achieve. The worry and stress simply reinforce the adrenaline/cortisol response. Cortisol is one of the main hormones that assist in waking you up in the morning!

Falling asleep is not something you need to think about consciously. In fact, it is better to let nature do its thing.

This is where Insomnia Hypnotherapy, which is inherently relaxing, can help. I can help you re-set the mind body system to return to a natural pattern that you were born with. I’m not saying you will sleep like a baby, rather, de-stress about it and simply relax.
