What is Agoraphobia?

Not to be confused with Agraphobia (fear of sexual abuse). Agoraphobia is a condition where the sufferer becomes anxious in environments that may be unfamiliar, or familiar situations where they perceive they have little or no control. These feelings of anxiety may be triggered by wide open spaces, crowds (which can be linked to social anxiety) or unfamiliar travel (where the sufferer has to leave their comfort zone).

Some may even refuse to leave their home in a medical emergency, as the discomfort is too great.

Agoraphobia can sometimes be linked to social embarrasment, as the sufferer may fear a panic attack and appearing distraught in public.

The sufferer may be fearful of a particular place, where they may have experienced a panic attack previously. They may actively avoid that location, for fear of another panic attack.

Many fear public places such as Supermarkets, Airports etc where there are fewer places to hide.

Virtually all sufferers realise that theirs fears are exaggerated but feel powerless to overcome them.

How can Agoraphobia Relief Hypnotherapy help?

Over the course of a few sessions, the subconscious can be hypnotically “de-sensitised” to the triggers that cause the anxiety. This is without the individual having to relive or be re-traumatised by that situation, comfortably and safely. You can take control of Agoraphobia with Hypnotherapy.

Panic attacks are thereby reduced or eliminated, and the individual can get on with their lives again.

Obviously with this condition many sufferers would find it difficult to appear at my therapy office. Martin Lancaster Hypnotherapy can arrange home visits for these cases. Usually after a couple of sessions, travelling to the office is less of a problem.
